DAISY HILL NAMED IN NATIONAL 19/U SQUAD

Hawks Netball Division 1 goaler Daisy Hill has earned selection in the Australian 19/U squad, after some stellar performances while playing for the Northern Territory at the National Championships.

Hill, who played in the Hawks’ 19/U team for the past two seasons before being elevated to Division 1 this year, starred for NT, which had one of its best Nationals on record, finishing seventh but recording a win and numerous close results along the way.

Hill’s accuracy throughout the week caught the eye of selectors, particularly in the playoff game against Tasmania, where she shot 26/30.

After returning from Nationals, Hill debuted in Division 1 and picked up where she left off over in South Australia, netting 35 goals in her first game.

As part of her Australian selection, she will now attend the 19/U National Squad camp at the Netball Centre of Excellence at the AIS in July, as well as being placed into a high performance program with Netball Victoria for the next 12 months.

Hill said she had worked hard on parts of her game since playing for NT at the 2017 Nationals, and had taken big steps forward this year.

“I’ve worked on my strength and timing of leads out of the ring, which I’m still currently working on. But I believe my strength has improved considerably since last year, which has helped my game so much,” she said, adding that her 2017 experience helped her slip seamlessly into the NT side.

“Nationals with NT is always a bit different from training and playing down in Vic but it was so easy to transition into and gel with the team. It helps that I played last year and helped even more having a fellow Vic in the ring, too.”

On behalf of everyone at Hawks Netball, we wish Daisy the very best of luck at the National camp and with her netball in the coming months at years.

Congratulations, Daisy!
