Having cemented another finals berth with a thrilling one-goal win in Round 15, Hawks Netball’s Division 1 team’s eyes are fixed firmly on building its best form for another tilt at success in the coming weeks.
The come-from-behind result against Southern Saints saw the Hawks consolidate second position on the ladder, but importantly move 3.5 games clear of fifth position with only three rounds remaining – guaranteeing another finals appearance.
Defender Sasha Witts said it was pleasing to have found a way to win in Traralgon, despite the team not being at its best.
“Saturday‘s game against Saints really tested our mental fitness,” Witts said.
“Although it wasn’t our usual crisp netball, which we have shown we can put out against even the top teams, we played some really determined netball in the second half to come back from five down and grab the win.”
Witts said being resilient in tough moments would serve the team well in the coming weeks, with matchups against first-placed Geelong in Round 17 and fourth-placed Blaze in Round 18, after facing off against Ariels in Round 16 this Wednesday.
“This team has so much potential coming into this finals season,” she said.
“We’ve seen so many players grow both as individuals and together as playing combinations, and it’s the depth of connections across our team which has gotten us to second spot.”
“In the next few weeks, consistency is going to be really important both at training but also during games, making sure we are relentless from start to finish. I’m excited for what’s your come.”
Hawks take on Ariels at Maroondah Nets in Heathmont this Wednesday, July 5, from 7pm. Tickets at the door.
