Hawks Netball has marked the most successful year in its history, securing the inaugural VNL 23 & Under premiership while both the Championship and 19 & Under development teams reached finals.
It was a remarkable season from the victorious 23 & Under team, recording only one loss and a draw along with 20 wins throughout the regular season, before dominating the finals series to cap a remarkable year.
Having stormed into finals as minor premiers the Hawks lived up to that billing in the semi-final, leading Melbourne Uni Lightning from start to finish to record a 64-34 win and book a spot in the season decider.
There they would face North East Blaze, who won through with a one-goal victory over Lightning in the preliminary final.
Challenged by Blaze in the first half and down by a goal at half-time, Hawks responded emphatically in the third quarter, netting 15 goals to six to put the cup within touching distance, and finishing off with a 12-9 final quarter to run out 51-40 victors.
In Championship, the Hawks reached the preliminary final for the first time in more than 10 years, defeating North East Blaze in an unforgettable semi-final before falling just four goals short of Boroondara Express in the prelim.
And in 19/Under the team finished in the top two but unfortunately bowed out in the semi-final under the competition’s knockout 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3 format.
